United States 11, Austria 0: Forward Matthew Boldy (Minnesota Wild) scored a hat trick for the United States in a win against Austria in Group B on Saturday.
U.S. goalie Dustin Wolf (Calgary Flames) made 10 saves for the shutout.
Boldy's hat trick came during a span from 14:16 of the second period until 5:52 of the third. His first was the finish of a brilliant pass from Matthew Beniers (2021 NHL Draft eligible), followed by a put-back off a rebound and then a creative pass from forward Trevor Zegras (Anaheim Ducks), who finished with two goals and two assists.
Forward Brendan Brisson (Vegas Golden Knights) scored two goals. Defenseman Drew Helleson (Colorado Avalanche) and forwards John Farinacci (Arizona Coyotes), Brett Berard (New York Rangers) and Sam Colangelo (Ducks) each scored once for the U.S. (1-0-0-1).
Austria goalie Sebastian Wraneschitz (2021 draft eligible) made 58 saves before leaving the game with a leg injury at 9:12 of the third period. Jakob Brandner (2021 draft eligible) made three saves in relief.
Defenseman Philipp Wimmer (2021 draft eligible) was ejected in the third period after a hit to the head of forward Patrick Moynihan (New Jersey Devils).
It was Austria's debut in the 2021 WJC after being promoted last season.
Canada 16, Germany 2: Forward Dylan Cozens (Buffalo Sabres) scored a hat trick and had six points, and forward Dawson Mercer (Devils) had two goals and two assists for Canada in a preliminary round Group A win against Germany.
Forwards Alex Newhook (Colorado Avalanche), Peyton Krebs (Golden Knights) and Philip Tomasino (Nashville Predators) scored two goals each.
Germany was limited to 14 skaters because of coronavirus issues. It was its second game in as many nights after a 5-3 loss against Finland on Friday.
German goalie Arno Tiefensee (2021 draft eligible) was pulled after the first period, allowing four goals on 11 shots. Jonas Gahr (2021 draft eligible) took over at the start of the second and saved 21 of 33 shots.
Defensemen Kaiden Guhle (Montreal Canadiens) and Thomas Harley (Dallas Stars) and forwards Ryan Suzuki (Carolina Hurricanes), Jakob Pelletier (Flames) and Connor McMichael (Washington Capitals) also scored for Canada, which scored on each of its first five shots in the third period.

Canada played without forward Kirby Dach (Chicago Blackhawks); Dach, who is Canada captain, sustained a wrist injury in a pre-tournament game against Russia on Wednesday and is out for the remainder of the tournament.
Sweden 7, Czech Republic 1: Philip Broberg (Edmonton Oilers) had three assists and Sweden extended its winning streak in the preliminary round of the World Junior Championship to 53 games with a victory against the Czech Republic in Group B.
Sweden (1-0-0-0) broke a tie during a 6:57 span in the second period when forwards Albin Sundsvik (Ducks) scored a power-play goal, Emil Heineman (Panthers) scored shorthanded and Theodor Niederbach (Detroit Red Wings) scored an even-strength goal. Broberg, a defenseman, assisted on each.
The streak includes 46 wins in regulation, three in overtime and four in a shootout. Sweden's most recent loss in the preliminary round was 3-2 in overtime against the United States on Dec. 31, 2006.
"I think we played really well," said Broberg, the Sweden captain. "I think we didn't have our best first period, but we played better and got better the more we played. We played our best period in the last one. We are trying to build our game and build it throughout the tournament. I'm happy with the guys."
Forward Jan Mysak (Canadiens) gave the Czech Republic (0-0-0-1) a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal at 10:14 of the first period. Sweden tied the game on a goal by forward Arvid Costmar (Vancouver Canucks) 32 seconds later.
Forwards Elmer Soderblom (Red Wings), Oscar Bjerselius (2021 draft eligible) and Noel Gunler (Hurricanes) each scored in the third period.
Goalie Hugo Alnefelt (Tampa Bay Lightning) made 19 saves for Sweden. Nick Malik (2021 draft eligible) made 22 saves for the Czech Republic.
