EDMONTON, AB - Saskatoon Blades forward Cameron Hebig had big news to break on Thursday.
The Edmonton Oilers announced the signing of the undrafted forward earlier in the day and the 20-year-old was ecstatic to have inked a contract with a National Hockey League club.
"It's very exciting," Hebig, who leads the Saskatoon Blades with 28 goals and 51 points in 34 games this season, said. "For a team like the Oilers to believe in me, it's pretty special. To sign with them is very cool for me and my family but I still have a lot to prove and still have to show them why they made this choice."
Hebig missed the entirety of the 2016-17 season with an upper-body injury. He maintained a hard work ethic and an internal belief that he would get back on the radar of NHL clubs.
"It was tough mentally to go through that," he said. "I always knew I would be back and I just wanted to keep working. Some days were tough but I kept that mentality that I would be back."
