EDMONTON, AB - The first full practice for the Oilers at Rogers Place following a five-game road trip provided even more relief and comfort for forward Jujhar Khaira on Wednesday.
The 24-year-old left wing has been nursing a lower-body injury sustained on February 15 against the Carolina Hurricanes, and was left out of the club's travelling roster for the previous road trip that ended 3-1-1 for the Oilers. Having the opportunity to reconnect with his teammates on the ice and in the dressing room was a welcomed one after Khaira skated on his own for more than a week.
"It was exciting," Khaira said of Wednesday's practice. "Just to be in the same room as the rest of the guys, being out on the ice, and playing hockey with everyone in this locker room, was a blast. I enjoyed it and I've been looking forward to it since they've been gone, so it's a step in the right direction."
As the Oilers continued their battle for a playoff spot on the road, Khaira put in the work back in Edmonton in order to put himself on track to rejoin his teammates at the next possible interval.
