EDMONTON, AB - Oscar Klefbom has been officially ruled out for the 2020-21 season.
Oilers General Manager and President of Hockey Operations Ken Holland told Bob Stauffer on Monday's episode of Oilers Now the defenceman will not be available during the upcoming campaign as he continues to explore treatment for his ailing shoulder.
Holland said he spoke with Klefbom recently and the 27-year-old is still considering surgery as an option. The Swede will be targeting the start of the 2021-22 season for his return.
"He's exploring his options and shooting for trying to be at camp in September," Holland said.
Klefbom has scored 34 goals and 122 assists in 378 career NHL games, including five goals and 29 assists in 62 games last season. He also averaged the fifth-most time on ice in the NHL last season at 25:25, which was a career high.
