EDMONTON, AB - Newly appointed Bakersfield Condors Assistant Coach Dave Manson thinks his experience as a former National Hockey League defenceman will help in guiding the Condors blueline this upcoming season.
"I think it's important because if you play the position and now you're moving on to coaching, I think it helps with the translation," Manson
told
Bob Stauffer Wednesday on 630 CHED's Oilers Now. "Everything's pretty transparent as far as what you're telling the kids."
Manson, 51, appeared in 1,103 NHL games and spent the last 12 campaigns as a coach with the Prince Albert Raiders of the Western Hockey League.
"When I grew up, I had Rick Wilson as my junior coach - who was a huge help - and he went on to coach many years in the NHL," continued Manson. "Then my years in Chicago, we had Dmen that were coaches. I think it just helps in the fact that what you're saying, there's some believability to it because you've done it. You're not asking them anything to do that you wouldn't have done yourself."
