EDMONTON, AB - Connor McDavid has arguably been one of the biggest proponents for NHL players getting the chance to represent their countries and participate in the upcoming 2022 Winter Olympics.
Correspondingly, the Oilers captain is one of its most disappointed parties after that opportunity was taken off the table due to growing COVID-19 case numbers and the logjam of postponements in the NHL calendar that's been built up over the month of December.
"It's upsetting, and there's not much else to say other than that," McDavid said.
McDavid spoke to the media late Sunday afternoon at Clare Drake Arena following the Oilers first practice coming out of the extended holiday break, representing the captain's first chance at voicing his thoughts on the decision made by the League last week to withhold its players from participating in the best-on-best competition in Beijing in February.
"The whole thing is so disappointing," he said. "It's hard to really put into words what I think a lot of guys are feeling, especially the guys who've never got to go before. Now we're missing it for the second time in a row."
