On Tuesday morning, Oilers defenceman Oscar Klefbom was placed on Injured Reserve. Klefbom has played in 33 of the team's 34 games this season but he's played injured recently.
"He's been playing sore and hurt for awhile and with us getting Larsson back and Sekera getting close, now's the time to get him the time he needs to heal throughout the Christmas break," said Oilers head coach Todd McLellan.
Any player placed on IR has to be out for a minimum of seven days so the earliest Klefbom can return is on December 27 at Winnipeg. McLellan is hopeful he will be back by then.
"Hopefully that will help him get his body back to where it needs to be to perform at a high level."
Klefbom has played his best hockey of the season lately. In the month of December, he has a goal and three points and a +6 rating in 22:27 of ice time through eight games after only six points and a -14 rating through his previous 25 games.
"Oscar's game has come a long way over the last few weeks," McLellan noted.
