EDMONTON, AB - The Oilers practiced Monday morning at Rogers Place ahead of hosting the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night for the first of three home games this week against Detroit, Buffalo, and New Jersey.
Head Coach Jay Woodcroft is just over a month into his tenure as Oilers bench boss and has been preaching a day-to-day focus for his team to manage the busy workload for the players in the season's condensed final months. This extended homestand offers the Oilers some comfortable respite and consistency from the hectic schedule, along with a chance for Woodcroft to take stock of his lineup after winning the last two games over Washington and Tampa Bay.
"When I say we're keeping our picture small or focusing on the day's business, obviously part of the job of the coaching staff is to manage workloads and understand energy reservoirs," Woodcroft said. "I think for us right now, we're at a good point in our schedule. When I first came up, it was six games in nine nights and five games in seven, but now we're at home and we're able to take a little bit of a different look at things."
