EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Oilers returned to the ice at Rogers Place for practice on Monday morning after a day off on Sunday following Saturday afternoon's 4-0 shutout of the Vegas Golden Knights.
Goaltender Mike Smith, who's recorded back-to-back shutouts for the Oilers, was named the NHL's Third Star of the Week earlier in the day.
Easter Sunday began the first three-day stretch for the Oilers since early February where they've been given the luxury of having more than two days off in the NHL's condensed schedule to conclude the regular season. Head Coach Jay Woodcroft took over behind the Oilers bench on Feb. 11 and commands an impressive 21-8-3 record in 32 games over the last 66 days.
"I think this break is nice mentally just to get a bit of a break," forward Warren Foegele said. "We've been grinding the past couple of months with the schedule being so compact, so it's nice to have a few days off and then get right back to the grind."
