EDMONTON, AB -While Darnell Nurse had his hands full logging 62:07 in a triple-overtime loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Monday, his fiancé Mikayla was putting in a shift of her own at the hospital to deliver their firstborn.
"She (Mikayla) had Aiden, our son, this morning and it was an unbelievable experience," Nurse said Tuesday during his exit interview at Rogers Place.
"It's something that I'm very happy I was able to be there for. She was at the hospital yesterday from nine in the morning and she's still there now. It was a crazy turn of events and I'm just blessed to have a healthy baby and that my fiancé is healthy. That's all that matters."
Nurse wasn't sure if he would be able to make it for the joyous moment given that he was in Winnipeg for Game 4 but discussed the situation with his fiancé ahead of time. The alternate captain was lucky enough to be able to leave it all on the line in Monday's elimination game before arriving at the hospital.
