EDMONTON, AB - With the JUNO Awards set to take centre stage at Rogers Place on Monday night, the Edmonton Oilers were on the ice at the Downtown Community Arena for practice this afternoon after returning from a four-game road trip.
The Oilers took four of a possible eight points on the trek that included the highs of a statement 3-2 victory at TD Garden against the league-leading Boston Bruins, but also, the lows of a 7-4 defeat to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Hockey Night in Canada, where four goals against in a six-minute span of the second period quickly erased Edmonton's advantage.
A seven-game stretch against playoff-contending dating back to Feb. 27 ended on Saturday night for the Oilers and featured two tilts with the Bruins, Maple Leafs and Winnipeg Jets and a one-off versus the Buffalo Sabres, returning a 4-3-0 record.
"It was a big trip for us," defenceman Darnell Nurse said. "We didn't get all the points we wanted, but I think there was some really good hockey, really good statements that we made along the way, so there are lessons to learn for our group. It's important that we instill them here with a chance to play a lot of games on home ice."
