EDMONTON, AB - There was a new player on the ice for Oilers morning skate on Thursday morning, but he's already endeared himself to Oil Country countless times over the last month.
Five-year-old cancer fighter and Edmonton's lucky charm Ben Stelter laced up his skates, pulled on his helmet and gloves, and grabbed his stick before joining the likes of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl for the morning skate at Rogers Place before the Oilers take to the ice for the penultimate game of the regular season against the San Jose Sharks. He even beat Mikko Koskinen with a low wrist shot and came away from the skate with his first-career NHL goal puck to go along with the once-in-a-lifetime experience.
"It's a cool experience for him and for us to have him out on the ice today," Ryan Nugent-Hopkins said. I talked to him after a bit, he had a lot of fun. He's been a real inspiration for us. You can tell we've been rallying around him."
