For the Edmonton Oilers, the post-season has started early.
"I'd argue it is playoff hockey right now," said Oilers Head Coach Todd McLellan. "I don't know if it's going to be much harder or tighter than it has been over the last couple games, anyhow. I think we're into it already."
The Oilers have one-goal wins in back-to-back games against Pacific Division opponents. They clinched their spot in the playoffs with a 2-1 win over Los Angeles on Tuesday and followed it up with a 3-2 victory over the San Jose Sharks Thursday.
Their latest win vaulted them into sole possession of second place in the Pacific, setting up Saturday's battle for first with the Anaheim Ducks at Rogers Place.
"It's big. Every time you play those guys, it's a bit of a rodeo," said Oilers captain Connor McDavid. "It should be a fun one here in Edmonton with a lot on the line."
