EDMONTON, AB - The Oilers held an optional practice on Thursday afternoon after claiming a 4-3 shootout win over the Los Angeles Kings in a playoff-charged victory at Rogers Place that marked their eighth straight win on home ice.
"I think our players feel the juice in the building," Head Coach Jay Woodcroft said following today's optional. "I think there's a really good atmosphere here, we play in front of the best fans in the world. I said over the last few days here that we want to make this building a really tough two points to take out of. We want to make sure opponents know that when they come into this building, they have the whole city of Edmonton against them."
Thursday's practice was made optional as Woodcroft and his coaching staff keep regular tabs on the energy reserves of the players to best determine on a day-by-day basis how to keep the players performing at their highest level. But that practice designation comes with the expectation that players will arrive ready at the next session to absorb the day's details put forward by the coaching staff.
