BUFFALO, NY - It's easy to rally around a player when they're well-liked within the dressing room. That's the case with Oilers defenceman Andrej Sekera - or 'Reggie' - as the skaters like to call him.
The Slovak is a charismatic veteran and consummate pro, with the ability to provide light humor off the ice and ask the right questions when on it. When the defender was in Bakersfield getting back into game shape, Sekera put it on himself to support the young Condors players, catering team meals and setting the professional precedent.
Oilers Head Coach Ken Hitchcock took the notion a step further, saying Sekera operates in a way that coaches appreciate as well.
"His professional presence in the locker room makes everybody pay attention," said Oilers Head coach Ken Hitchcock. "He asks the questions coaches appreciate because it confirms some things that we want to know and I think it brings attention to the players that there's a seriousness about preparation."
