EDMONTON, AB -The Oilers have their first three-game win streak of the season, after victories over Minnesota, San Jose and St. Louis. It has the team closing in on being .500 for Christmas, something they want to help give them a boost heading into the New Year.
Something that is helping the Oil have some success is their resiliency in close games. On this win streak, Edmonton held on to beat the Wild 3-2 after a late goal and push from the opponent. Against the Sharks, the Oilers scored to make it 4-2 in the third, then after San Jose got one to make it 4-3, they closed things down and bagged an empty-netter.
And on Thursday against St. Louis, they recovered from two go-ahead goals by the Blues to finish strong and get a 3-2 victory.
"We're a more resilient group right now," said Oilers centre Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. "It's a little bit of what we saw last year. If we get down by one, it doesn't matter. We just keep pushing. It doesn't matter what the score is, we just play that consistent game. We know the way we need to play to be successful and we're starting to get back to that and see the results of it."
