EDMONTON, AB - What a month for Carter Savoie.
The Oilers 2020 fourth-round pick started his NCAA career with the University of Denver Pioneers by scoring seven goals and four assists in 10 games in December, earning the National Collegiate Hockey Conference's Rookie of the Month honour.
The 100th-overall selection from October's NHL Draft led all NCHC rookies in scoring and ranked third among all NCAA freshmen. His seven tallies tied him for first in the NCAA for all players and his four power-play goals put him alone in top spot in that category.
Savoie, a St. Albert native, scored 53 goals and 46 assists in 54 games with the Sherwood Park Crusaders last season to rank second in the Alberta Junior Hockey League in scoring.
The Pioneers played 10 games in 19 days starting Dec. 2 as part of the NCHC pod in Omaha, Nebraska. They resumed play after the Christmas break on Friday, switching back to a traditional schedule, visiting Colorado College before hosting the rematch on Saturday in Denver.
