EDMONTON, AB - Starting the preseason off with a shutout 'W'.
Goaltenders Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard combined to make all 29 saves on Sunday night at Rogers Place as the Edmonton Oilers opened their exhibition slate with a 4-0 blanking of the Winnipeg Jets.
Defenceman Markus Niemelainen opened the scoring inside the first minute of action before a scoreless stretch of almost 49 minutes of regulation was broken by James Hamblin's goal infront of his hometown crowd midway through the third period.
Forwards Ryan McLeod and Dylan Holloway added insurance 27 seconds apart before the five-minute mark of the final frame, helping seal the Oilers a win on home ice to open up their seven-game pre-season schedule.
The Oilers travel finish off back-to-back exhibition games on Monday night with a road date against the Seattle Kraken at Climate Pledge Arena.
