FIRST BLOOD

It took McDavid all of 45 seconds to get another point closer to the century mark as he ripped a shot past Thatcher Demko toward the end of his opening shift to make it 1-0 Edmonton for an indication of what was to come. Brock Boeser was skating the puck out of the Vancouver zone but McDavid snuck up behind him and poked it into neutral territory for Darnell Nurse, who sent a cross-ice pass to Ethan Bear, who sent McDavid back over the blueline and the captain scorched a wrist shot through Demko's five-hole for his 32nd goal and 97th point.

PLAY OF THE GAME

There could be only one top play of this game. With the Oilers at the tail end of a two-man advantage in the final minute of the second period, McDavid and Draisaitl executed their go-to power-play move to perfection as the captain cut toward the high slot, drawing the defenders to him, and found last season's league MVP in his wheelhouse on the right flank for his patented rocket one-timer that had no chance of being stopped by Demko as it found the top corner over the netminder's glove. Draisaitl, Nurse, Alex Chiasson and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins mobbed McDavid while Chiasson also scooped up the puck to commemorate the 100-point milestone moment.

SAVE OF THE GAME

Mike Smith stopped 22 of 25 shots to record his 20th win of the season in his 29th start. His best save of the night came with four minutes to go in the opening frame as he managed to get his pad on a crafty deflection from the slot by Bo Horvat following a pass from Travis Boyd.

TURNING POINT

Not only did Draisaitl's power-play marker give McDavid his 100th point, it was also a pivotal goal as it put Edmonton back ahead 4-3 after the Canucks had scored three of the previous four goals to make it 3-3 in the middle frame. The third period was scoreless as the historic goal held up as the winner.

TOP PERFORMER

For the seventh time in 53 games this season, McDavid recorded four or more points with a goal and three assists. He now has a ridiculious nine goals and 22 assists in his last 11 games.

FACT CHECK

According to NHL Public Relations, by hitting the century mark on Saturday, McDavid became the ninth player in NHL history and first in his lifetime to reach 100 points in 53 games or less. Mario Lemieux (38 games) and Jaromir Jagr (52 games) of the Pittsburgh Penguins were the most recent players to achieve the feat during the 1995-96 campaign, one year before was McDavid was born.

NEXT UP

The Oilers have just three games remaining in the regular season as they'll fly to Montreal tomorrow for games against the Canadiens on Monday and Wednesday before returning to Rogers Place for next Saturday's finale as the Canucks come to town once again. After that? Playoff time.

PARTING WORDS

"It solidifies he's one of the top players to ever play the game," Head Coach Dave Tippett said of McDavid. "The level he's played at this year and what he's accomplished, it's one of those years where he's taken his talents to another level that is just elite for the league... It's an amazing, amazing feat."
"To see my teammates' reactions, it's really really special," McDavid said of his Oilers counterparts celebrating his 100-point achievement. "It really means the world to me."
"Honestly, it's just impressive... I don't think my English is good enough to find another word for it right now," Draisaitl said of McDavid hitting the 100-point mark in 53 games. "It's incredible. We've played 50-some games and he's at 100 points... He's the best player in the world and it's fun to be a part of."
"I'm proud of it, but I'm planning on playing a few more years," Draisaitl said with a smirk, asked about hitting the 500-point milestone for his career. "The fun years are still ahead here in Edmonton, so I'm just fortunate and happy to be part of it and I'm really excited for the next couple of years."
