EDMONTON, AB - It would not be the same fate this time around for the Oilers Rookies against the NAIT/MacEwan All-Stars.
Defenceman Caleb Jones carried the play with two goals and two assists, while Tyler Benson and Ryan McLeod had three-point nights as a plethora of shots yielded plenty of goals Tuesday night for the rookies in a 9-1 thrashing at Rogers Place.
The rookies peppered NAIT/MacEwan goalies Marc-Olivier Daigle and Brendan Jensen for 68 shots, exceeding last year's total of 49 that ended in a 2-0 loss for the Oilers.
Blueliners Evan Bouchard and Jake Kulevich both added two helpers, and centre Tyler Vesel posted a goal and assist.

Inside The Oilers Blog
Dylan Wells had to be sharp in limited action, making 12 saves in a scoreless 40-minute outing before Olivier Rodrigue took over in the third period.
"I think going into it we knew the importance of tonight having lost our first one in Calgary," Wells said. "A lot of us here remembered what happened last year and we wanted to make sure it didn't happen again. I was just trying to stay involved all game and be on top of the little details, and I felt pretty good out there."
An offensive explosion in the form of nine goals helps build confidence ahead of a rematch with the Calgary Flames Rookies in Red Deer Wednesday night after the Oilers opened their Rookie Camp with a 7-3 loss at the Scotiabank Saddledome on Sunday.
"We've challenged our guys to grow and get better every day, and a lot of good things showed up in the game tonight that we've worked on in practice," Bakersfield Condors Head Coach Jay Woodcroft said. "I think we took a step yesterday as a group in practice. We took another step today and it's a big test for us tomorrow in Calgary."
The All-Stars' shutout streak against the Oilers from last year's inaugural matchup ended at 76:40 when centre Ryan McLeod opened the floodgates on the night with 3:40 left in the first period.
McLeod snapped the opener into an open net past Griffins' netminder Marc-Olivier Daigle off the set-up by Tyler Benson in the slot to open the scoring in the first period.
The Oilers outshot NAIT/MacEwan 20-4 in the opening frame, keeping pace with last year's total of 49 shots in a 2-0 shutout to the All-Stars in last year's Rookie Camp.
Jones outwaited Daigle and the Ooks' defenceman in the middle frame to wrap around his second goal of Oilers Rookie Camp from behind the net. Benson's second effort and Colin Larkin's wrist shot separated by 81 seconds continued the rout at 4-0 for the blue and orange at the end of 40 minutes.

HIGHLIGHTS | Oilers 9, NAIT/MacEwan 1

"I thought I was moving my feet a lot, trying to move the puck, saw opportunity to get up in the play and create something, and I thought I took it," Jones, a 2015 fourth-round pick, said post-game. "It just happened to be a good night."
Oilers goalie Dylan Wells had to be sharp in his limited action despite ending his night with only 12 saves as Olivier Rodrigue took over in the third.
Woodcroft mandated in the second intermission that his players continue to make the right decisions despite the lopsided scoreline -- a mandate that the Condors bench boss believes his team followed closely in the final frame.

"Sometimes when games get away like that, there's a tendency to get away from who you are," Woodcroft said. "We challenged our players tonight to continue to do things right and I'm pleased with our team effort tonight."
Kirill Maksimov squeaked his first as an Oilers rookie five-hole through NAIT's Brendan Jensen two minutes into the third. Vesel swatted home the sixth before Luke Esposito scored unassisted with a wrist-shot from the left hash mark.
After McLeod and Jones added their second goals of the night to make it 9-0, NAIT/MacEwan got on the board when Ryan Baskerville broke the shutout.
The Oilers Rookies rematch the Flames Rookies Wednesday night in Red Deer at the Enmax Centrium. Puck drop is at 7:00 PM and can be streamed live on
