The Edmonton Oilers face the Detroit Red Wings in the Lunar New Year Game at Rogers Place on Tuesday night.

THIRD PERIOD

0.0: GAME OVER! Connor McDavid records SIX assists in an 8-4 win over the Detroit Red Wings at Rogers Place. Nugent-Hopkins gets a pair of goals to go along with an assist, while Leon Draisaitl, Evan Bouchard and Evan Bouchard have multi-point nights. The Oilers hit the road for a three-game trip beginning Thursday in St. Louis.

2:11: NUGE BACKDOOR! And there's Connor McDavid, picking up his sixth assist with the feed to the back post for Nugent-Hopkins, who gets his second of the game. 8-4 Oilers.

4:40: Detroit goal. Former Oilers forward David Perron with the nifty deflection.

6:19: WHAT A GOAL! Evander Kane puts away a delicious spin-o-rama dish from Connor McDavid as he was falling over. More McDavid brilliance as he picks up his fifth assist to rousing applause at Rogers Place. Vincent Desharnais hets the secondary assist and this looks all but wrapped up for the Oilers up 7-3.

7:05: HYMAN PUSHES IT OVER! Leon Draisaitl picked off a pass and tried to feather it in front for Hyman, and after the first pass failed, the winger was able to slide home the rebound through Lyon's five-hole to make it 6-3 on his 37th of the season.

9:35: Mattias Ekholm is called for hooking trying to prevent a Red Wings scoring chance. Detroit is 2-for-2 tonight.

16:33: NUUUUUUUGE! No. 93 wires a wrist shot under Lyon's right arm for the 4-2 advantage, while picking up his 13th goal of the season. Connor McDavid gets an assist and now has four helpers on the night, while Evan Bouchard has a goal and two assists.

The Oilers have built themselves their third two-goal lead of the game.

9:35: Mattias Ekholm is called for hooking trying to prevent a Red Wings scoring chance. Detroit is 2-for-2 tonight.

16:33: NUUUUUUUGE! No. 93 wires a wrist shot under Lyon's right arm for the 4-2 advantage, while picking up his 13th goal of the season. Connor McDavid gets an assist and now has four helpers on the night, while Evan Bouchard has a goal and two assists.

The Oilers have built themselves their third two-goal lead of the game.

19:16: HERE COMES HOLLOWAY! The young forward dives through the danger area to get to a loose puck and put it past Alex Lyon early in the third period. His captain Connor McDavid goes flying after Holloway went flying into the corner, but I don't think he'll mind much with his team back in the lead on the Calgary, AB product's third of the season. It's McDavid's 600th career assist, and Bouchard's 100th career helper.

4-3 Oilers.

20:00: The final frame is underway! All to play for over the final 20 minutes.

SECOND PERIOD

0.0: The Red Wings run their way back with two goals in the second half of the middle frame to make it 3-3 heading into the third period.

5:30: Patrick Kane scores. No active player has more points against Edmonton than him (71) after tying the game by going post-in from the right circle. New game here at Rogers Place, tied 3-3, but the Red Wings are looking the side more likely right now to win it.

6:01: Edmonton is trying to find their footing defensively with Detroit dominating since getting back to within a goal. DeBrincat struck the post not too long ago in a close shave for the Oilers.

8:36: Detroit answer back quickly. Joe Veleno scrapes one in off a goalmouth scramble on the power play. 3-2 Oilers.

9:43: EVAN BOUUUUUUCHARD! There's no Bouch Bomb this time, but instead, the defenceman is positioned in the slot to take Ryan Nugent-Hopkins' pass before depositing it over the right pad of Lyon for his 12th goal this camapign. RNH and McDavid get the assists.

The Oilers have their two-goal lead back just past the midway mark of the middle frame. 3-1.

20:00: The second period is underway!

FIRST PERIOD

0.0: AFTER 20 MINUTES | Edmonton has the 2-1 advantage from goals by Draisaitl and Ceci.

4:21: Detroit PP goal. Alex DeBrincat, the Red Wings' leading scorer, one-times a cross-ice pass five-hole under Stuart Skinner. 2-1 Oilers.

5:17: Leon is called for interference. Detroit to the power play.

8:49: CECI FIRES ONE THROUGH! After getting his 200th NHL point on Draisaitl's goal, the defenceman sends one through traffic that goes in off the skate of Mo Seider for his first goal of the year and first tally in 127 games. 2-0 Edmonton in the first period.

11:12: DRAISAITL DELIVERS! The Oilers pick up steam with a few dominant shifts from the top six, and the German sends a wrist shot from the slot past Husso, who had Corey Perry draped over him from getting pushed into the crease. The referee saw it all the way and called it clean from the Defroit defender leaving him no choice in getting a piece of the goalie. Darnell Nurse gets a helper and Cody Ceci records his 200th NHL point with the secondary assist.

Detroit is making a change in the crease, replacing Husso with Alex Lyon. The move looks injury-related with Husso coming off a two-month recovery from a lower-body injury tonight.

13:40: Evan Bouchard bombs one from the blueline that forces Ville Husso to push out a rebound to Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, but the netminder makes the fast save after RNH got to it quickly. Husso is making his first start for Detroit since Dec. 18, 2023 against Anaheim.
