The Oilers have a chance to win the West with Sunday's Game 6

THIRD PERIOD

0.0: WE... ARE... GOING TO THE STANLEY CUP FINAL! EDMONTON OILERS WIN 2-1 AND WILL COMPETE FOR THEIR SIXTH STANLEY CUP IN FRANCHISE HISTORY! WE'RE GOING BACK FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 2006!

Edmonton holds down the fort over the final 40 minutes, getting outshot 23-7 over the second and third periods and 35-10 on the night, but what can you say about Stuart Skinner? The Edmonton-born product has never lost an elimination game in his career (3-0) after making 34 saves for the victory, defending the lead heroically from the crease after McDavid and Hyman scored in the first period to build up a 2-0 buffer that would prove to be enough behind their team commitment to defending.

The Oilers win their League-best eighth Clarence S. Campbell Bowl as Western Conference champions and will fight for the Stanley Cup against the Florida Panthers beginning Saturday in Sunrise, FL.

Take a moment to soak this in, Oil Country, before we get back to work and chase that dream. This, however, is not a dream right now. We're playing for it all.

2:10: Skinner drops down to deny Wyatt Johnston's low shot from a tight angle for his 33rd save. Dallas' net is empty and the crowd at Rogers Place is on their feet for the final stretch.

10:42: It's shovelled over the line by Mason Marchment to make it 2-1. Tyler Seguin took a low shot that missed wide before he collected his own rebound and slid it out front through the crease for Marchment to bury as he crashed the net. The Stars are coming.

13:00: PENALTY KILLED! Three-for-three and the crowd at Rogers Place rises in acknowledgement of their efforts to continue keeping the Stars from scoring on the power play in this series (0-for-14) and maintaining Edmonton's 2-0 edge.

15:28: The puck is backhanded over the glass by Leon Draisaitl. Dallas goes to the power play.

17:33: Skinner manages to squeeze shut a dangerous deflection that was delivered on goal by Roope Hintz after it bounced on the ice and looked bound for the gap under his left shoulder. A vital save as the Stars pick up the pressure with their season on the line.

20:00: The third period is underway!

SECOND PERIOD

0.0: The Oilers are battling to defend their 2-0 lead, getting outshot 21-8 through 40 minutes but holding the vital lead on the scoreboard to sit in pole position to move on. Just 20 mire hard miles to go.

7:48: Roope Hintz rattles the post after the Oilers weren't able to manage the puck in their own end and clear it.

13:43: Skinner denies Tyer Seguin twice from in close after a shot was put on net from up top to cause a scramble around the Oilers' crease.

20:00: The second period is underway!

FIRST PERIOD

0.0: The Oilers kill off another penalty to improve to 2-for-2 and set a new franchise record with 27 straight kills after the power play provided the punch with goals from McDavid and Hyman. Shots are 12-3 Dallas, but 2-0 for Edmonton on the scoreboard.

2:29: Brett Kulak is called for high-sticking.

4:18: ANOTHER UNBELIEVABLE GOAL! THIS TIME, MCDAVID DISHES AND HYMAN FINISHES! After an incredible exchange by the power-play forwards at the blueline, McDavid had it on his stick coming down the left and didn't have a pass to Hyman until he waited for a lane to open up for the winger to take a pass and roof a quick snapshot bar down. Hyman has 14 goals now in the 2024 playoffs and McDavid has a two-point night already with Evan Bouchard, who has two assists. 2-0 Oilers.

McDavid makes it 1-0 with a sensational solo effort on the PP

5:38: A slash into the hands of Cody Ceci on an unexpected breakaway gives the Oilers their second power play! Already 1-for-1 tonight.

7:05: Darnell Nurse delivers a hard check near the benches on Matt Duchene. Despite leading 1-0, the early shot advantage is 6-1 for Dallas after getting that power play and a couple of long looks in the o-zone.

12:46: McDavid comes on too early off a change and it leads to a too many men penalty for the Oilers.

15:43: MCDAVID ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! THIS IS THE PLAYOFFS NOT A SKILLS COMPETITION! McDavid orchestrates an early power-play goal with a simply suberb dangle around the Dallas defender before backhanding it upstairs on Jake Oettinger from outside the crease, lifting the Blue & Orange into a 1-0 lead in Game 6. McDavid's magical goal goes down as his 30th point of the playoff campaign for the League lead.

16:25: After a strong early push from Dallas, the hard-working Zach Hyman takes it down low into the Stars' zone and draws a tripping penalty against Chris Tanev!

20:00: GAME ON! A chance for the Oilers to go to the Cup Final, while Dallas will try to take this Western Conference Final to seven games.

20:00: The first period of Game 6 will begin at 6:10 pm MT.
