PRE-GAME REPORT

SAN JOSE, CA - The Oilers have a chance to have a very successful road trip with a win tonight in San Jose, making it three out of four at a crucial time in the year against divisional opponents.
"This could go from a good trip to a great trip," said Oilers head coach Ken Hitchcock. "If you play .500 or better on the road, you're pretty happy. That gives you a chance to be a playoff team if you have any decent home record."
"But we'd like to be a little bit greedy today. They kicked us pretty hard in our building and then we won the game in overtime in this building. From my standpoint, I'd like to see us play a good game."
LINEUP UPDATES
Edmonton has only one lineup change from Sunday's win in Anaheim with Joseph Gambardella drawing out and Ryan Spooner drawing in. Here were the line combinations at the morning skate:
Khaira - McDavid - Kassian
Lucic - RNH - Puljujarvi
Rieder - Draisaitl - Chiasson
Spooner - Brodziak - Rattie
Jones - Larsson
Nurse - Russell
Gravel - Petrovic
Cam Talbot will get the start in goal again.
"It was a big win for me personally but also for the team. We knew we needed a good bounce back win after the LA game. With short rest, we knew we needed a big game from everybody. My mindset was go in and play well and the rest will take care of itself," said Talbot, looking back on his 4-0 shutout win in Aanheim.
Talbot added that getting that third win in the four-game trip would be massive for the team in the standings.
"This is huge for us. They came into our building and pretty much took it too us so now we have to come in here and make sure we're prepared. This is a team that starts fast in their own building."
PLAYING A TIRED TEAM
On Sunday, the Oilers came into Anaheim on a back-to-back and played against a rested Anaheim squad. Tonight, the opposite will occur with the Sharks having played on Monday at home against the Kings.
Oilers head coach Ken Hitchcock was asked about the effect of playing against a team that had a game the night before.
"The only way the rested club has an advantage is in the first 10 minutes," Hitchcock began. "The experience for me is as the game goes on, the team that plays back-to-back gets better. Your first advantage is the first 10 minutes depending how the game went. Yesterday's game here was a hard game for both teams. You're hoping there's a little bit of energy lost at the start. You don't know but you hope for that advantage."
"It works opposite of what people think. You can get no advantage later on. You get your second win and away they go. We've seen it with our club. When we play back-to-back the second two-thirds of our game are better than the first-third."
OFFENCE FROM DEFENCE
The Sharks lead the NHL in points from the blueline, particularly with Brent Burns (47 points, leads the NHL in defence scoring) and Erik Karlsson who has an assist in 13 straight games, approaching an NHL record for d-men.
"With their transition game and their ability back there, especially on the right side they make you pay for little mistakes," noted Hitchcock. "They can thread pucks through people and around people better than anybody. Those two guys are dynamic and when they're out there 25 minutes a game every second shift, it's a hard go. You just can't make big errors against them."
Talbot added that he needs to watch the traffic in front as they try to deflect shots from Karlsson and Burns.
"I just try to stick to what I do, recognize who's on the ice. They like to move around the ice and get a lot of motion in the zone," said Talbot. "It's going to be a blue crease battle tonight, I think."
