PRE-GAME REPORT

EDMONTON, AB - At long last, we have hockey.
What better way to kick off a four-month-long National Hockey League layoff than with the Battle of Alberta?
Twelve Western Conference teams have touched down in Edmonton's NHL Hub City Secure Zone for the 2020 Stanley Cup Qualifiers and Playoffs. Although the real games won't start until Saturday, Tuesday's exhibition affair with the Calgary Flames comes with no shortage of intrigue.
The provincial rivals have feuded on the ice for decades but the animosity was stoked over four regular-season matches. The Flames owned the season series with three wins and a single loss but that 8-3 defeat the Oilers handed them on Feb. 1, was arguably the most action-packed game of the NHL's calendar, featuring big hits, big goals and a goalie fight.
Zack Kassian was front and centre in the mayhem. The Oilers forward found himself engaged in skirmishes with Matthew Tkachuk but doesn't envision that fuming hostility Tuesday.
"It's going to be a high-intensity game," Kassian, who compiled 15 goals and 34 points in 59 games this season, said.
"At the same time, there's so much at stake for both teams going into the playoffs. Everyone's going to be smart. I don't think it's going to be like the last few games you saw."
Kassian has never been one to shy away from the physical side of the game but maintained that he and the rest of the Orange & Blue want to be ready for Game 1 of their best-of-five series against the Chicago Blackhawks.
"The Stanley Cup Playoffs isn't a time to get redemption," Kassian said. "It isn't a time to take stupid penalties. It's business and we're looking forward to the opportunity to playing a good Chicago team and hopefully moving on."
DON'T BURST THE BUBBLE
Members of the Oilers took Sunday and Monday to get comfortable in their new environments at the JW Marriott across the street from Rogers Place.

Some players have admitted the oddity of being at home in Edmonton but not being allowed to exit the Western Conference Hub City Secure Zone.
Unfortunately for the Oilers, the club won't be able to use their dressing room for every game as the League remains strict on ensuring no team - including the Oilers and Toronto Maple Leafs - experience any sort of home-ice advantage.
That will hold up on Tuesday as the Oilers are recognized as the visiting team versus the Flames. During games, the home side will hear familiar game presentation sights and sounds from their home arenas.
"For the most part, everything's pretty comfortable," defenceman Matt Benning said. "The player lounges are really nice and the food amenities are really nice. I haven't heard of anyone complaining or that sort of thing and there's stuff for guys to do."
To ensure players and all others within the NHL Hub City bubbles remain safe while the threat of COVID-19 still lingers, extensive testing is being performed on players daily. The NHL announced Monday that there were no positive results among the 4,256 tests administered to over 800 players during July 18-25.

"The testing is the testing; you got to do it no matter what," said Benning. "For some guys, it's bad. For some guys, it's not. It's part of being here and part of continuing what we're doing. For the most part, guys aren't really complaining about it."
As the players have now returned to play, skaters commended the efforts of everyone involved in making it all happen.
"It's probably a stressful time for the NHL and everyone involved in this unique situation," said Mike Smith. "The NHL and the city of Edmonton have done an unbelievable job to get this bubble life sorted out.
"As players, I think we feel pretty safe about where we're at right now. We're excited about getting going."
LINEUP NOTES
Oilers Head Coach Dave Tippett disclosed that Riley Sheahan did not practice on Monday. He left Saturday's scrimmage early and did not return.
Darnell Nurse was the only other skater to not participate in Saturday's scrimmage but it looks as though he was back on the ice Sunday and Monday.
Coach Tippett did not reveal whether it would be Smith or Mikko Koskinen getting the nod in goal on Tuesday.
"They'll both practice in the morning and get some good work. And then we'll decide who's going to play tomorrow night," he said.
Oilers expected lines based on Phase 3 Training Camp:
Nugent-Hopkins - McDavid - Kassian
Ennis - Draisaitl - Yamamoto
Athanasiou - Haas - Archibald
Neal - Khaira - Chiasson
Klefbom - Larsson
Nurse - Bear
K. Russell - Benning
Smith
Koskinen
