PRE-GAME REPORT

NASHVILLE, TN -It'll be a quick turnaround for the Oilers.
The Oilers head to Nashville after a close-knit affair against the Minnesota Wild, which was dropped to the home side by a 2-1 score. The team is probably ready to play someone else after three games in 12 days against Twin City team.
The familiarity between the two clubs was pretty apparent on Monday as both sides had the answers to the other defensively for the majority of the evening - with the two combining for 31 less shots than their previous matchup last Friday.
"It's a little bit of a chess match out there in terms of the tactics and whatnot. I just thought both teams competed hard defensively. We had some chances," Head coach Jay Woodcroft said after the game. "I thought what ended up costing us there was probably a six, seven-minute span in the second period where we took a few penalties, we turned some pucks over, and that meant more time in zone than we wanted to have. In the end, as I said, it came down to a one five-on-five goal against that we feel we could have handled better. We certainly had enough time to get the equalizer. We just couldn't find it tonight on a good goaltender and against a good team."
Oilers defenceman Darnell Nurse, who finished the game with four shots, two hits, and a blocked shot in his 23:21 of ice time, was a little more succinct with his analysis of the game.
"Could be that (the familiarity). I think both teams had an emphasis on not giving up much," Nurse said. "Yeah, tight checking 2-1 game. There were chances both ways."

GOALTENDER ROULETTE

The Oilers won't skate before Tuesday's game due to a late arrival in Nashville, so there will be a wait until game time to determine who the Oilers will trot out between the pipes at Bridgestone Arena.
Stuart Skinner had another strong performance blockading the Oilers goal, turning aside 28 of 30 Wild opportunities on Monday. It's another feather in the cap of the young goaltender who has earned the trust of those inside the Oilers locker room.
"Stuart gave us a chance to win the game. Yeah. You know what? He holds the fort pretty well, and he's inspired confidence in his teammates," Woodcroft said about his goaltender. "I thought he gave us a good chance to win the game tonight and I thought their goaltender played well as well."
The Oilers could turn to Jack Campbell for the first time in six games, especially with the back-to-back coming in to play. Campbell already has a victory against the Predators this season back on Nov. 1 at Rogers Place. The free-agent acquisition has had his ups-and-downs while adjusting to his new team, but still has seven victories for the Oilers in the early part of the season.
The 30-year-old has been putting in the work to reclaim the form that saw his named an NHL All-Star for the first time last year and record a save percentage of .914 or above in four of his last five seasons.

MUSIC (CITY) TO LEON'S EARS

You know there is one player looking forward to seeing Nashville on the schedule.
Over the last couple of years, Leon Draisaitl has been THE thorn in the Predators side. Since the start of the 2018-19 season, the German superstar has recorded an eye-popping 25 points in his last 10 games against the Music City club. When the two teams met last, the 27-year-old torched the Predators with a goal and four assists in Edmonton's 7-4 victory.
Most impressively, Draisaitl has 18 goals in those 10 games since the start of 2018. The total is the second most by a single player against one team, with teammate Connor McDavid and his 19 goals in 24 games against the Calgary Flames being the only superior total.
McDavid has also been no slouch when it comes to taking on the Preds. The Oilers captain has points in his last eight games against Nashville, and 20-points overall in the last nine games.

OILERS vs. PREDATORS
STREAM: 6:00 p.m. MT; televised on Sportsnet West
Oilers Team Scope
In a meeting with the Minnesota Wild on Monday that felt like Game 3 of a mini playoff series, the Edmonton Oilers were beaten 2-1 at Xcel Energy Center.
The Oilers trounced the Wild 5-2 on home ice this past Friday to end a seven-game slide against Minnesota, but Monday saw the hosts take another close-checking game between the two sides after completing their season series over a three-week span. The Wild won two out of three against Edmonton.
Zach Hyman scored for the first time in 10 games to tie the game 1-1 in the first period, but Frederick Gaudeau's middle-frame tally off the feed from Matt Boldy, who had a goal and assist, proved to be the decisive action after the Oilers had a 6-on-4 opportunity in the game's final minute.
"I thought it was a competitive game, both teams were pushing hard," Head Coach Jay Woodcroft said. "I think all three games in this last little while against that team have been competitive. Today we made a mistake at 5:05 in the second period that ended up costing us, but we stuck with it right to the final whistle. Unfortunately, we couldn't find that second goal."
The Oilers are 2-1-0 in the second game of a back-to-back this season after going 4-5-1 in 2021-22.

Predators Team Scope
The Nashville Predators dropped to their third straight defeat in quiet fashion on Monday night, falling 1-0 in overtime to the St. Louis Blues after Brayden Schenn scored with 2:37 remaining in overtime.
Nashville's penalty kill was 3-for-3, and despite St. Louis coming in with the worst penalty kill in the league at 65.6 percent, the Predators power play couldn't score in four opportinities and is now 0-for-8 over the last two games.
"I thought the power play had some chances, but it's got to be more threatening," Head Coach John Hynes said. "I thought Ekholm's unit had some really good looks and I thought with Josi's unit that he had some good looks himself, but for the amount of power play time we had and those guys on the ice, it's got to be way more threatening than it was tonight."
Since Nov. 12, the Predators are 7-3-2 in 12 games since Nov. 12 and 5-0-1 during that span at Bridgestone Arena, where the Predators and Oilers will meet on Tuesday. The Predators are currently enjoying their longest home point streak since Oct. 8-31, 2019 (5-0-2).
Both sides will be on the second of back-to-back and Nashville is 2-0-0 in the second game of a back-to-back this season after going 5-6-3 in 2021-22.
Defenceman Roman Josi has 20 points (6G, 14A) in his last 19 games and needs three more points to tie David Legwand (566) and four to pass him for the franchise lead in points. Filip Forsberg (483), after passing Martin Erat (481) on Nov. 8 for third place on the Predators' all-time points list, is eight points from becoming the third player in team history to reach the 500-point plateau.
