PRE-GAME REPORT

EDMONTON, AB - The heat is on in Edmonton.
Not only outdoors, but also for the Oilers.
The squad did not begin their best-of-five Stanley Cup Qualifier against the Chicago Blackhawks in the win column, losing Game 1 by a 6-4 score. With one strike already, the Orange & Blue have little margin for error going forward and will look to square things up Monday night at Rogers Place.
"There's pressure on us to play better, but also you recognize the situation you're in," Oilers Head Coach Dave Tippett said in his pre-game availability.
"You've got to find a way to win a game to get it to a best-of-three. That's what our goal is tonight."
One key to Edmonton winning Game 2 will be getting a more concerted effort throughout the lineup. Many members of the Oilers admitted their performance was uncharacteristic, replete with hesitance and mistakes.
"It was a little bit of a wake-up call," said veteran James Neal. "We kind of just dipped our toe in the water and we weren't fully committed to how we need to play."
Despite opening the scoring with a Connor McDavid power-play goal 2:34 into the match, it was all Chicago the rest of the way in Game 1. The 'Hawks top line of Jonathan Toews, Brandon Saad and Dominik Kubalik connected for 10 points and goaltender Corey Crawford was not overly busy, stopping 25 of 29 shots.
"We know what our strength is as a team," Leon Draisaitl, who recorded one goal and three points on Saturday, said.
"We're looking to get back to that simple game that makes us very effective."
Coach Tippett hopes to see a proper response from his club.
"We're going to find out a lot about our team how we play tonight," the coach said. "How we deal with going out in a must-win game.
"Let's see how we react."
MONSTER MIKKO
It's been decided: Mikko Koskinen will tend the twine on Monday, Coach Tippett confirmed.
Mike Smith got the start in Game 1 but was eventually pulled after ceding five goals on 23 shots.
Koskinen showed well in relief of Smith, making 18 stops on the 19 pucks he faced. The lone goal he allowed came off a Kubalik tip on the power play.
Standing at 6-foot-7, Koskinen proved to be a steady netminder throughout the 2019-20 National Hockey League regular season. The Finnish keeper registered an 18-13-3 record with a .917 save percentage, 2.75 goals-against average and one shutout.
"We've talked about that since Day 1 of the season; we've got two goaltenders we feel that can play and our team will play well in front of either of them," Tippett said.
"Koski will get the start tonight and we expect him to play well."
The Vantaa, Finland product lacks NHL playoff experience - aside from the 30:46 of ice time he played in Game 1 - but possesses championship-winning calibre after claiming the KHL's Gagarin Cup in 2015 and 2017. Koskinen also earned a silver medal and Best Goaltender Award at the 2016 IIHF World Championship.
"I don't look at Koski as inexperienced. He's got lots of experience," said Tippett. "It's not like he's a young guy getting thrown out there for the first time. He's a steady guy. He'll go in and give us a solid game."

WING ATTACK
During the second period of Game 1, former Oilers winger Drake Caggiula tried to force Tyler Ennis into making a turnover by checking him in the defensive zone.
Realizing his time and space was waning, Ennis threw the puck out of play - resulting in a delay of game minor - before getting clipped to the head by Caggiula's shoulder.
No call was given to the Chicago forward while Ennis was sent to the box, forcing the Oilers to kill another penalty.
"Very obvious," Coach Tippett said of the sequence. "We thought it was a dangerous hit but when there's no call, there's nothing you can do about it and you've got to move on."
The NHL Department of Player Safety issued a one-game suspension to Caggiula on Sunday for the check to the head.
"The League took care of it," Tippett added.
Caggiula played the flank alongside Kirby Dach and Alex DeBrincat in Game 1. Now that he will be unavailable for Game 2, Chicago has forwards Dylan Sikura, Brandon Hagel, MacKenzie Entwhistle, Philipp Kurashev or Edmonton product John Quenneville capable of stepping in.
LINEUP NOTES
Coach Tippett was asked whether he had thought about making some lineup changes for Game 2 during his pre-game avail. He did not specify whether he would or not in his answer, however.
"We've got everybody available tonight," he said. "We'll sort that out as we go along here."
Stay tuned during warmups for a look at the line combinations.
