EDMONTON, AB - The Oilers seem to have found their game as of late, coming into tonight's contest winners of four-in-a-row.
"I think winning is fun, and when you win, you go to the rink and everyone's in a good mood," Warren Foegele said about the team's recent run. "I think our vibe has been good because we're believing in the process that we've been playing and we're seeing results as well, so we got to keep playing the same way and tonight's a big task against a good team."
With the three-in-a-row Eastern Conference champion Tampa Bay Lightning on the docket, the winners of two of the last three Stanley Cups should serve as a perfect measuring stick to see how far the Oilers game has come.
"They've been the pinnacle of the league the last, you know, as long as I can remember," Jack Campbell said. "Anytime they come into town, it's always a tough game and I think we're ready."
Although the Lightning currently sit third in the Atlantic Division behind the juggernaut Boston Bruins and the Toronto Maple Leafs, they sport the NHL's fifth-best record at 29-13-1 and an excellent plus-33 goal differential on the season.
Nikita Kucherov continues to the lead the way for the Lightning, striking opponents for 18 goals and 46 assists in 43 games this year as the NHL's third-leading scorer. His sniper counterpart in Steven Stamkos continues to dominate into his 15th NHL season, with 21 goals on the year. The 32-year-old is coming off a hat trick performance on Wednesday against the Calgary Flames where he recorded his 500th, 501st, and 202nd NHL goals, becoming the 47th member of the 500 club.
"I can tell you this as a former Markham Waxer (Ontario AAA hockey) myself, I'm very happy that Steven Stamkos scored that 500th goal yesterday," Oilers Head Coach Jay Woodcroft said. "His career speaks for itself. He's a two-time Stanley Cup champion. He's a fixture in the community in Tampa Bay. He's one of the game's best players and his longevity speaks for itself. He's represented our country on numerous occasions. As a former Markham Waxer and Toronto area guy, I'm proud of him."
