PRE-GAME REPORT

EDMONTON, AB -Twenty-eight games have been played and 17 victories have been filed into the win column at the midway mark of the Edmonton Oilers 2020-21 National Hockey League season.
The finish line is entering focus but plenty of work remains for the Orange & Blue. The club is third in the North Division with 34 points and understands there are still adjustments to be made.
After dropping below .500 with a 3-6-0 record in January, the Oilers have improved with a 14-5-0 showing in the last 19 matches.
"We started a little bit slow and we got going a little bit," Oilers Head Coach Dave Tippett said pre-game.
"The lessons that we talk about every day is to not get too high and not get too low. Let's make sure we're doing things right to give ourselves the best chance to be successful every night. To do that, you need everybody playing at the best level they can."
There are plenty of reasons for optimism in the Oilers Dressing Room up to this time. Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl have scorched the League as the top-two scorers with 48 and 42 points, respectively.
Defenders Tyson Barrie and Darnell Nurse have formed a complementary pairing on the blueline, producing 41 points combined while defending well. And in goal, Mike Smith returned from a month-long season-opening injury to backstop the Oilers with an 8-2-0 record, possessing a 2.18 goals-against average and .927 save percentage.
Despite the success, coach Tippett doesn't want the squad getting complacent in the back-half of the campaign. "We've made some strides but we're looking at the second half and want to improve," he said.

SEVENTH HEAVEN
The Oilers collide with the Ottawa Senators for the seventh time on Friday and have an opportunity to earn a seventh win in the season series after Wednesday's 7-1 drubbing.
The Senators have failed to find an answer for McDavid and Draisaitl, who have produced 28 points altogether in the six head-to-head matchups, and are expected to be a highly-motivated bunch in the three-game series final.
"Tonight will be the toughest match so far," Alex Chiasson said. "I expect them to come out with a lot of energy and tenacity. We got to get ready here and expect a team that's hungry for a win."
The Oilers have dictated the play throughout the season series, averaging 4.66 goals for per game and holding a 28-13 goal differential.
Defender William Lagesson, who returned to the Oilers lineup on Wednesday after being sidelined with an upper-body injury, believes the Oilers can collect win No. 7 if they replicate those prior performances.
"We're just going to play the same way as we have been doing the past games," said the Swede, who is expected to partner up alongside Adam Larsson. "If we can play that way we can close out the series with three wins."

LINEUP NOTES
Mike Smith took shots from the starter's crease at Oilers morning skate and is expected to get the nod in net.
Tippett confirmed Forward Dominik Kahun would not suit up for the game. "He's out of the lineup but not out of favour. It's a numbers game for him right now with the mix we're looking at. He'll get back in soon."
Kris Russell did not participate in the morning skate and is dealing with a day-to-day injury. Josh Archibald also remains on the shelf with an upper-body issue.
