"It's incredibly exciting to be premiering this film about my life where it all began," said Fuhr. "Edmonton has always been a special place to me, having been raised in Spruce Grove and playing many of my formative years here. I am excited to give the fans a glimpse behind the mask and my career."
Grant Fuhr began his hockey career when he was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in 1981. Hockey in the eighties was full of thrilling performances and exciting players who would soon be known as legends of the game. The Spruce Grove, AB native would become one of those illustrious players, being named one of the 100 Greatest NHL Players in 100 years of NHL history in 2017. Fuhr was a part of one of the best goaltending tandems in history, helping the team win the Stanley Cup four times in five seasons. Making Coco explores Grant's successes, controversy and redemption through the eyes of his teammates and rivals and provides personal commentary on his journey.
"Bringing this film home to Edmonton is going to be special and premiering it at Rogers Place will truly be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. In fact, we believe we might be setting a Canadian record for largest documentary film screening in the country," said Scorgie. "This wouldn't be possible without the exceptional work of our partner, Oilers Entertainment Group. Working with them throughout this process has been a dream come true and we can't wait to share a world-class experience with the fans here in Edmonton."
"This filmmaking journey was one of conflict, resolution, redemption and celebration. Grant's heartfelt and emotional insights into his life are some of the most riveting sports-human stories ever told," said Metz.
Fans will have the opportunity to watch the film in a new configuration of the bowl of Rogers Place, which will provide them an intimate viewing experience as they get a never-before-seen, exclusive look into the high-flying Oilers dynasty of the '80s. After the viewing, fans will get to hear first-hand about the documentary from Grant Fuhr himself, along with surprise guests, in a special hot stove.
