EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Oilers have acquired forward Sam Gagner from Vancouver in exchange for forward Ryan Spooner.
Gagner, 29, has appeared in seven games for Vancouver this season, posting three points (1G, 2A), four penalty minutes and a -3 plus-minus rating. The native of Oakville, ON has spent most of the season with the American Hockey League's Toronto Marlies, where he has posted 37 points (12G, 25A), 12 penalty minutes and a -7 plus-minus rating in 43 games.
The 5'11", 200-pound forward has appeared in 777 NHL games over 12 seasons, posting 436 points (153G, 273A), 358 penalty minutes and a -112 plus-minus rating.
The native of Oakville, ON began his career in Edmonton, after being the Oilers' first round selection, sixth overall, at the 2007 NHL Draft. Gagner has also played with Arizona, Philadelphia, Columbus and Vancouver.
The Oilers have also placed defenceman Matt Benning on Injured Reserve and recalled Gagner from Toronto (AHL).
