EDMONTON, AB - The Oilers have added former NHL defenceman Mark Stuart to their coaching staff.
Stuart, 38, joins head coach Jay Woodcroft and current assistants Glen Gulutzan and Dave Manson, goaltending coach Dustin Schwartz, along with video coach Jeremy Coupal and video coordinator Noah Segall, as an assistant coach for the upcoming season.
A veteran of 673 NHL games with Boston, Atlanta and Winnipeg, the Rochester, Minn., native spent last season coaching with his alma mater Colorado College where he attended from 2002 to 2005.
A former first-round selection (21st overall) of the Bruins in the 2003 NHL Draft, Stuart spent parts of six seasons and 283 games with Boston before being traded to the Thrashers in 2011. Following the club's move to Winnipeg later that year, he played another six seasons and 390 games for the Jets through the 2016-17 campaign.
Over the course of his NHL career, Stuart recorded 26 goals and 67 assists for 93 points along with 722 penalty minutes and a plus/minus rating of +43. Seeing action in an additional 26 post-season games, he added another goal and three assists. Following the conclusion of his NHL career, he played one season for Adler Mannheim in Germany's Deutsche Eishockey Liga.
He returned to North America for the 2018-19 season and took a position with Winnipeg's AHL affiliate, the Manitoba Moose. After taking a year off to complete his college degree, Stuart joined the staff at the University of Vermont in 2020 before being offered a position at Colorado College last year.
The Oilers also announced that skating coach David Pelletier will return to the coaching staff. The former Olympian and gold medalist enters his ninth year with the hockey club.
