EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Oilers have acquired forward Valentin Zykov off waivers from the Carolina Hurricanes.
Zykov, 23, has appeared in 13 games for Carolina this season, posting three assists and a -1 plus-minus rating. He has also appeared in six games with the AHL's Charlotte Checkers, scoring two goals, 16 penalty minutes and a -1 plus-minus rating
At 6'0", 220-pounds, Zykov is in his fourth professional season and has appeared in a total of 25 NHL games with Carolina, posting 11 points (4G, 7A), two penalty minutes and a +4 plus-minus rating.
The native of St. Petersburg, Russia led the AHL with 33 goals in 2017-18 and has appeared in 180 AHL games over four seasons, posting 104 points (58G, 46A), 138 penalty minutes and -5 plus-minus rating. In 13 AHL playoff games, he added eight points (4G, 4A), 10 penalty minutes and a +1 plus-minus rating.
Zykov was originally selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the second round, 37th overall, in the 2013 NHL Draft.
He played for Russia at the 2014 World Junior Hockey Championship in Malmo, Sweden, winning a bronze medal.
The Edmonton Oilers have also assigned forward Patrick Russell to the American Hockey League's (AHL) Bakersfield Condors.
