Support for Hockey Fights Cancer will be splashed around the arena this evening while the Oilers take on the New Jersey Devils with the Oilers Foundation and Oilers Ladies selling limited-edition Oilers mittens on the concourses for only $20.
Hockey Fights Cancer's signature colour, lavender, will be evident throughout Rogers Place as well, with lavender rink boards and in-bowl lighting. Additionally, Oilers players will be using lavender tape during pre-game warmup and donning special Hockey Fights Cancer helmet decals during the game. Oilers Management and Coaches will also be showcasing their support by wearing the official lavender Hockey Fights Cancer ties and pocket squares.
Net proceeds from this annual Hockey Fights Cancer fundraiser will benefit the Kids With Cancer Society's BrainWorks program and the EOCF. The Kids with Cancer Society helps children diagnosed with cancer and their families throughout Northern Alberta handle various issues - from the time of diagnosis throughout treatment and beyond - through support clinical programs and research as they navigate cancer treatment or cope with cognitive late effects.
"BrainWorks has been accessed approximately 2,700 times in the last two years, for therapy sessions, teachers meetings and group support. This access has been made possible thanks to the generosity of the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation's investment," said Kids with Cancer Society Executive Director Val Figliuzzi.
"We are very grateful for the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation. They saw the potential and were the first to provide funding for our visionary BrainWorks Program - the first program of its kind in Canada. With the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation's help, we are able to provide needed support for our children and their families in their time of greatest need, helping them move beyond childhood cancer to becoming successful in life."
