EDMONTON, AB -The Oilers have placed goaltender Mike Smith on long-term injured reserve (LTIR) and re-assigned goaltender Olivier Rodrigue from the Graz99ers (Austria) to the club's taxi squad.
Smith signed a one-year contract extension with the Oilers on Oct. 10 after playing 39 games (37 starts) in his debut season with the team in 2019-20, posting a 19-12-6 record with a 2.95 goals-against average and .902 save percentage. The 38-year-old backed up Mikko Koskinen during Wednesday's 2020-21 season opener against the Vancouver Canucks.
Rodrigue, who will join the taxi squad pending quarantine protocols, has played 23 games in Austria's ICE Hockey League this season, posting a 3.11 goals-against average and .908 save percentage.
The 20-year-old was selected in the second round (62nd overall) at the 2018 NHL Draft.
