EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Oilers have signed undrafted free agent Joakim Nygard to a one-year entry-level contract, starting in the 2019-20 season.
Nygard, 26, has just completed his seventh season in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL), all with Farjestad BK.
The 6'0", 179-pound forward posted 35 points (21G, 14A), 20 penalty minutes and a +15 plus-minus rating this past season. Nygard ranked second league-wide with 21 goals and fifth in shots on net (153). He added ten points (5G, 5A) in 14 playoff games.
A native of Stockholm, Sweden, Nygard has appeared in 18 games with the Swedish National Team, including 11 games in 2018-19, posting five points (3G, 2A), six penalty minutes and an even plus-minus rating.
