EDMONTON, AB - Mike Smith has been named the NHL's Third Star of the Week.
The 40-year-old goaltender posted back-to-back shutouts over the Nashville Predators on Thursday and Vegas Golden Knights on Friday, making 30 and 39 saves, respectively.
Smith became just the sixth netminder in NHL history to record consecutive shutouts after turning 40 and the first since New Jersey Devils legend Martin Brodeur in November 2013.
He has posted an 8-1-1 record in his last 10 appearances and has won seven consecutive starts, bumping his season totals to 13-9-2 with a 2.91 goals-against average and .911 save percentage.
Smith now has 44 career shutouts, tying him for 36th in NHL history with Miikka Kiprusoff.
St. Louis Blues forward Vladimir Tarasenko and Minnesota Wild forward Kevin Fiala were selected as the NHL's First Star and Second Star of the Week, respectively.
