EDMONTON, AB - From one captain to three brand new ones.
Connor McDavid had the honour of announcing Team Canada's leadership group for the World Junior Championship on Friday, recording a video that was played at the end of their practice.
The Oilers captain broke the news to the national U-20 team that Kirby Dach will wear the 'C' on his chest at the tournament, while Dylan Cozens and Bowen Byram will be the alternates.
"I'm looking forward to watching you guys," McDavid said on the Rogers Place scoreboard. "There's nothing more special than winning a gold medal on Canadian soil, so hopefully you guys can defend it and do Edmonton and do Canada proud."
McDavid did just that at the 2015 tournament in Toronto as Canada beat Russia 5-4 in the championship game. He scored in the gold-medal match and was selected as a tournament all-star, while Oilers defenceman Darnell Nurse was also on the team.
Canada is scheduled to open this year's tournament against Germany on Boxing Day.
