EDMONTON, AB -Andrej Sekera should be ready to join his Slovakian teammates at the World Championships this summer. The Oilers defenceman has been planning on it, despite suffering a minor injury to his knee at the end of the season.
"I still want to," he said. "I haven't played a lot this year so that was my play overall. I still want to go, so I will rehab for one week and then I go home and join the team after that and see how it is."
Sekera had a tough season, trying to come back from an ACL injury he suffered in the playoffs last year. Toward the end, he started feeling more comfortable but it's been a long road to getting back in the swing of things. He hopes playing at Worlds will help him get some of his hockey habits back.
"It was frustrating right after the surgery and after the injury happened," he said. "It's part of the life you live. You play contact sports and then sometimes injuries happen, sometimes they don't. You just have to deal with it. I tried to deal with it the best way I could. But it was frustrating watching the game then chasing the game too."
