Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Jan Rutta underwent a successful core muscle injury repair this week, it was announced.
The surgery was performed by Dr. Michael Brunt at the Center for Advanced Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri in collaboration with the Penguins' Head Team Physician Dr. Dharmesh Vyas of UPMC Sports Medicine.

The expected recovery timeline is 8-10 weeks.
Rutta, 32, appeared in 56 games in his first season with Pittsburgh. The 6-foot-3, 204-pound blueliner notched three goals, six assists, nine points and was plus-3 while averaging 17:07 of time-on-ice per game.
