Vyas has been a member of the Penguins medical staff since 2012 when he began as team physician. In 2013, he was promoted to head team physician and to the leadership role as Medical Director of the team, a position that he has held since. He also serves as head team physician of the Penguins Elite Youth Hockey League at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex.
In addition to his duties with the Penguins, Vyas maintains a busy clinical practice providing non-operative and operative treatment of sports and non-sports related injuries in pediatric and adult patients.
Vyas received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Illinois in 1995. Following that, he defended a Ph.D. in Physiology and Molecular Biology from the University of Missouri in 2000. He then completed a year of postdoctoral work in the same field at the University of Missouri before enrolling in Medical School at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. Upon graduation in 2005, he completed a five-year residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Chicago. Following his sports medicine orthopedic surgery fellowship at UPMC in 2011, Vyas was invited to join the faculty that year.
