The Penguins have scored 20 goals in their first five road games of the 2024.25 campaign, which ranks third in the NHL behind the New York Rangers (22) and the Los Angeles Kings (22). In their five games, the team has scored fewer than three goals just once. From an individual standpoint, Lars Eller shares the league lead in goals on the road (4). Rickard Rakell (3) and Kevin Hayes (3) are each one goal off of the NHL lead.

Evgeni Malkin has been one of the hottest Penguins out of the gate, accumulating a team-high 11 points (2G-9A) in eight games. Malkin has recorded multi-point efforts in four games this season, and only two players have more multi-point games than Malkin. Malkin’s 11 points on the season are tied for seventh in the NHL.

Erik Karlsson registered an assist on Tuesday against Calgary, giving him six points (1G-5A) on the season. Five (1G-4A) of Karlsson’s six points have come in five road games, and he is tied for third in the NHL in points on the road among active defensemen.

The Penguins rank fourth in the NHL with 27 goals through their first eight games of the season. Pittsburgh has 13 players on its roster that have scored this season after Noel Acciari tallied his first goal of the year on Tuesday night, which is tied for the third-most unique goal scorers in the NHL.

Sidney Crosby and Kris Letang have combined on 303 goals in their careers, which is one such effort shy of tying Anze Kopitar and Drew Doughty for the third-most goals combined on by a forward-defenseman duo in NHL history.

Jesse Puljujarvi has been productive out of the gate for the Penguins, registering five points (1G-4A) in his first seven games played. His five points are the second-most that he’s accumulated in his first seven games to start a season. The 2021.22 season, which was Puljujarvi’s best seven-game start to his career, also doubled as the season where he established career highs in assists (22) and points (36) in 65 games.

Puljujarvi spent parts of six seasons with the Edmonton Oilers to begin his career (2016.23), notching 112 points (51G-61A) in 317 regular-season games with Edmonton. He’s looking to face his former team for the first time in his career.

Rickard Rakell has played some of the best hockey of his career against the Edmonton Oilers. In 33 career games, Rakell has recorded 12 goals, 15 assists, 27 points with four game-winning goals. His four game-winners are tied for his most against any one team (Colorado, 4), and his goal and point totals are his second-most against one team.

In 27 career games against Edmonton, Erik Karlsson has tallied 27 points (6G-21A). Karlsson’s 27 points against the Oilers rank eighth among active defensemen. Karlsson’s 1.00 points per game against Edmonton ranks first among active defensemen (min. 10 GP) and is tied for sixth in NHL history.
