The beloved mask was in need of repairs and touchups, so in January a team from PPG's automotive refinish businesses completely redesigned, repaired and repainted the iconic helmet.
The mastermind behind the project was technical sales instructor Jeremy Seanor, who worked with refinish application specialist Scott Moore and technical sales instruction supervisor Jim Kvatek to disassemble the chipped and dented mask at the arena and take it to the automotive refinish training center to fix it up.
"This project was really special to me, because I'm a big fan of the Penguins, but it was also pretty stressful," Seanor said. "The helmet structure required more repairs than we had expected, giving us less time to paint it and get it back to the arena."
The deadline was tight, but Seanor and his team got the job done and has the mask looking better than ever with a fresh new look using vibrant black, yellow and white colors and products from PPG Paints.
It has even got some international love from FOX SPORTS Italia, where they showcased the timelapse video on air and discussed the repainting and remodeling of the mask.
The iconic mask is back and has fans continuing to line up and snap more pictures. Seanor and his team could not be more thrilled with its outcome.
