The Pittsburgh Penguins have placed defenseman Olli Maatta on injured reserve, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Jim Rutherford.
Maatta will be out indefinitely.
Maatta, 24, suffered an upper-body injury after absorbing a hit in Monday night's 4-1 road victory against the Philadelphia Flyers at Wells Fargo Center. Maatta has skated in 55 games this year, producing 13 points (1G-12A) and a plus-7.
Tomorrow night the Penguins begin a three-game homestand by hosting the Edmonton Oilers at 8:00 PM at PPG Paints Arena in a nationally televised game on NBC Sports Network. Later this weekend, the Penguins have back-to-back day games. Pittsburgh hosts the Calgary Flames on Saturday at 1:00 PM and the New York Rangers on Sunday at 12:30 PM. Fans can watch the game against the Flames on AT&T SportsNet, while Sunday's contest against the Rangers will be nationally televised on NBC.
