The Pittsburgh Penguins have named Marty Lauzon as Director of High Performance, it was announced today by President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Kyle Dubas.

In his new role, Lauzon will oversee the hockey operations' strength and conditioning, nutrition, mental fitness, injury prevention and injury rehabilitation programming. Lauzon will work in concert with the Head Team Physician, Dr. Dharmesh Vyas and report into Dubas.

A native of Beloeil, Quebec, Lauzon has over 25 years of experience working in professional and collegiate sports. He spent 21 years in the NFL from 1999-21, first with the Cleveland Browns (1999-2009) and then with the Atlanta Falcons (2010-21). With Cleveland, he served as the team's assistant athletic trainer/physical therapist from 1999-2005 and was promoted to head athletic trainer/physical therapist in 2005. Lauzon began his 11-year tenure with the Falcons as the head athletic trainer/physical therapist from 2010-13, before being promoted to director of sports medicine and performance from 2013-21. During Lauzon's time with the Falcons, the team captured the NFC South Division three times, won the NFC Conference Championship in 2017 and advanced to Super Bowl LI against the New England Patriots.

Lauzon spent the previous two seasons with the Atlanta Hawks of the NBA, where he served as the team's director of athletic performance and sports medicine. With the Hawks, he was responsible for handling all aspects of the team's athletic training department, including the oversight of the sports medicine department, the strength and conditioning coaches, nutrition and overall planning to optimize player health and availability.

Lauzon began his career at UCLA from 1997-99, serving as the school's director of rehabilitation for their athletic programs. He also spent one year as the director of sports rehabilitation for NovaCare-Northeastern Ohio in 2009.

Lauzon earned a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy from the University of Ottawa in 1994. He is a certified athletic trainer and certified specialist in sports physical therapy through the American Physical Therapy Association.
