The 25-year-old Nylander spent his first full season in the Penguins organization in 2022-23 split between Pittsburgh and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League. Nylander appeared in nine NHL games, registering a goal, an assist and was plus-1. With WBS, Nylander set AHL career highs across the board in goals (25), assists (25), points (50) and power-play goals (12) in 55 games. His 25 goals led all WBS skaters, and his 12 power-play tallies ranked ninth in the AHL.
The 6-foot-1, 192-pound forward has 93 games of NHL experience under his belt, recording 14 goals, 20 assists and 34 points with Pittsburgh, the Chicago Blackhawks and Buffalo Sabres. His best NHL season came in 2019-20 with Chicago when he recorded career highs with 10 goals, 16 assists and 26 points in 65 games played.
In 287 career AHL games, split between the Rochester Americans, Rockford IceHogs and WBS, Nylander has tallied 77 goals, 101 assists and 178 points.
The forward has played internationally for Sweden at the World Under-18 Junior Championship in 2016 and World Junior Championship in '16, '17 and '18. Nylander helped Team Sweden to a silver medal at the 2016 U18 WJC, as well as the 2018 WJC. He's slated to represent his home country at the 2023 IIHF World Championship, which will take place from May 12-28 in Tampere, Finland and Riga, Latvia.
Nylander was originally drafted by the Sabres in the first round (8th overall) in the 2016 NHL Draft and is the son of Michael Nylander, a veteran of 920 NHL games from 1992-09, and brother of Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander.
