Defenseman Steve Oleksy has been reassigned to WBS.
Rowney, 27, returned to the Wilkes-Barre lineup on Jan. 13 after missing 18 games due to injury. He has earned at least one point in his last six games since his return, tallying eight points (5G-3A) during that span. He has recorded 10 goals and 21 points in 24 games this season. His .88 points per game rank third on the team behind Jake Guentzel and David Warsofsky.
The 6-foot-2, 208-pound forward had a standout year with WBS last season, establishing career highs with 24 goals, 32 assists, 56 points and a plus-23 rating. Rowney skated in 10 postseason games, recording four goals and 12 points for the Penguins.
The undrafted native of Grand Prairie, Alberta, signed an NHL contract with the Penguins on March 8, 2016 after playing the past three years in the Penguins' organization . He's appeared in 185 regular-season games with WBS, amassing 46 goals, 66 assists and 112 points. Rowney has added six goals and 18 points in 25 playoff games.
Since turning pro in 2013, Rowney has also played in four AHL games with the Abbotsford Heat (scoring one goal) and 44 games with the ECHL's Wheeling Nailers, where he had 51 points (14G-37A).
Rowney played four years of collegiate hockey at the University of North Dakota from 2009-13, helping his club win three WCHA titles and twice earning a selection onto the WCHA All-Academic Team. Rowney was an alternate captain as a senior in '12-13.
