The back-to-back Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins won a "Stanley" for sponsorship activation at the 2018 NHL Club Business Awards this week in Las Vegas.
The winning entry involved two unique promotions that connected fans with corporate partners - the "Golden Ticket" in 2016-17 and the "Penguins Passport" in 2017-18.

The NHL awarded "Stanleys" in four business categories to recognize "club excellence, innovation and creativity for fan engagement."
"We're honored to win the 'Stanley' for sponsorship activation and even more honored that it was a total team effort, with contributions from all of our departments." said Terry Kalna, the Penguins' senior vice president of sales and broadcasting, "We know that our corporate partners and fans have really enjoyed engaging in these two unique promotions with truly amazing prizes."
The current "Penguins Passport" promotion will enable one lucky fan to win tickets to EVERY Penguins game, home and road, during the 2018-19 season, plus Delta Airlines vouchers, a hotel gift card and $100,000 in spending money. "If you're a Penguins fan, it's the greatest grand prize ever," Kalna said. "You literally get to see every game we play."
There were 20 individual Penguins Passports issued during the season involving various prizes - 19 offered by participating corporate partners and one offered by the Penguins. Five winners selected at random will attend the April 6 home game vs. Ottawa at PPG Paints Arena and one of them, selected at random, will win the grand prize.
The "Golden Ticket' promotion, held during the Penguins' 50th anniversary season in 2016-17, offered a grand prize of two Penguins season tickets for 20 seasons. Corporate partners participated in the same manner, conducting individual contests with prizes throughout the season. Twenty winners attended the final regular season home game and the grand prize winner was chosen at random.
