Pens defenseman Ian Cole has been a healthy scratch for the last three games for Pittsburgh. However, he skated on a defensive pair at Thursday's practice and could be back in the lineup tonight against Buffalo. He addressed that following Friday's morning skate.

On this past week: "For me I just have to keep going and keep working hard and everything will sort itself out. As a player you don't have a ton of control over it. It's something that's unfortunate, but I'll keep working hard and everything will take care of itself."
On returning after an absence: "You want to keep it simple at first and try to get back into it. The longer that you're not playing, the more you tend to get out of game speed. Fortunately, it hasn't been very long."
Head coach Mike Sullivan addressed several topics with the media following the morning skate. Here are the best takeaways.
On Malkin's status: "He'll be a game-time decision, but he looks pretty strong right now."
On the three-day stretch of no games: "It was a good opportunity to recover. I think we haven't really had a break in the schedule in this early part of the season. To have an opportunity to recover physically and mentally, to get away from it, hopefully will serve our team well."
On Archibald's re-assignment: "He's been a great pro. He's done everything within his power to give himself a chance. It's just hard sometimes when you don't get into game action. … We thought it would make the most sense to give him an opportunity to get into a bunch of games. Wilkes-Barre has three games on the weekend and he has a chance to play in three games in a row."
