In his new role, Daley will be based out of Pittsburgh and report directly to Rutherford, assisting in player evaluations at the NHL and AHL level, as well as acting as an 'eye in the sky' for the coaching staff during games.
"First, I would like to congratulate Trevor on an incredibly successful 16-year career," said Rutherford. "In addition to being a Stanley Cup Champion with us, he left us with a great impression due to his professional demeanor and quiet leadership qualities. Those traits, along with his desire to want to learn about the business side of the NHL, made him a great candidate to join our staff."
The 37-year old Daley enjoyed an illustrious NHL career, appearing in 1,058 games split between Dallas, Chicago, Pittsburgh and Detroit, recording 89 goals, 220 assists and 309 points. Only 13 active players have appeared in more regular-season games than Daley's 1,058.
The Toronto, Ontario native is a two-time Stanley Cup Champion, playing a vital role in Pittsburgh's back-to-back championships in 2016 and 2017. In total, Daley has suited up for 71 career playoff games, registering 18 points (6G-12A) and was plus-7.
Daley was one of Rutherford's key acquisitions in the 2015-16 campaign that sparked the mid-season turnaround, eventually leading to a Stanley Cup Championship. He would go on to appear in 109 total regular-season games with the Penguins, recording 11 goals, 30 assists and 41 points. His 41 points were third-most among team defensemen during that span, and he also served as an alternate captain in parts of his tenure with Pittsburgh.
Originally drafted by the Dallas Stars in the second round (43rd overall) of the 2002 NHL Draft, Daley has eclipsed the 20-point plateau eight times, including a career-high 38 points (16G-22A) with Dallas in 2014-15.
