SK8-2-GR8 Summer Camp

Whether your child dreams of being the next Scott Hamilton or Filip Forsberg, is eager for a new hobby or looking to spark a new passion for the ice, this is their camp! It's the best place to beat the hot Nashville summer afternoons, too. New to skating? No problem! All ages and all skill levels are welcome!

The camp is managed and taught by our Scott Hamilton Skating Academy certified instructors, whose main objective is to instill a lifelong love for the ice. By the end of the camp, skaters will have graduated from their first or second level of skating, learning 16 new on-ice skills. Camp includes lots of fun off and on-ice activities designed to build strength, agility and balance to set your future skaters up for success!

  • WHO: Our SK82GR8 Recreational and Developmental camps are ideal for skaters of all levels and abilities including beginners and hockey skaters looking to improve skating skills, along with all USFS Basic Skills levels through U.S. Figure Skating Juvenile and all USFS Excel Track skaters.
Camp Experience Includes
  • On-ice Classes - Technique instruction, power skating, moves in the field, jumps, spins, movement & presentation.

  • Peter Sasmore is a USFS Ice Dance Gold Medalist, Gold Free Dance, and International Dance Medalist. He has 35 years of coaching experience, specializing in Ice Dance, Moves in the Field and Choreography.
  • Shawnee Appell is a triple USFS Gold medalist in Freestyle, Dance and Moves in the Field. Gold Medalist at the 2012 US National Synchronized Championships and a Bronze medal at the World Synchronized Skating Championships in Sweden.
  • Kelly Hobbs - Kelly is a U.S. Figure Skating Category A coach who has achieved her Master rating in Moves in the Field and Certified in Free Skate. Kelly has been coaching for more than 11 years and works with the Scott Hamilton Skating Club and Learn to Skate Program. Specializes in Basic Skills, All Levels of Freestyle, and Moves in the Field.
  • Gia Sasmore - Gianna, a USFS National Competitor and Solo Dance National competitor in ice dance. Gia has been to three Theatre on Ice Nationals. She has been skating since she was a year old. She is currently working to achieve Gold medals in Ice Dance and Moves in the field. Available for lessons to all beginners and Basic Skills athletes.
What To Bring
  • Light jacket or sweatshirt
  • Long athletic pants for on ice classes
  • Skating equipment: Skates, guards, skating apparel, practice attire and exhibition attire, sweater, gloves, tights
  • Competition music (digital versions only)
  • Casual clothing
  • Good pair of running shoes for off-ice training
  • Shoes or sneakers for dance class
  • Yoga mat or towel
  • Notebook and pen/pencil
  • An open mind and open heart
Before Camp
  • Look for an email 1 week prior to camp starting with a schedule of camp, classes, and other information about your stay at the Academy.
  • Complete camp questionnaire following registration (found on your registration email confirmation)

Private & Semiprivate Lessons
  • All our coaches are available for private lessons on a first come first serve basis. Ask your coach to look over our staff list and make recommendations or we are here to guide you as well! Confirmation email will include a camp form to complete with the opportunity to register for private lessons with coaches available. Private lesson fees are additional costs and paid directly to coach.
  • FS Sessions before and after camp hours - No additional charge for these sessions if booked for private lesson with staff coach. Coach private lesson fee should be paid directly to coach through Venmo, check, cash on site day of lesson.
